Characters
I think all writers identify with certain characters that they write. I know I've often said that Allison from Come Sail Away has a lot of the mother in me in her and that Annie in the Blue series is like me in her relationship with Joey and that Sydney from Just Dessert has the same body image issues I've dealt with in my life, but I'd never really thought about the fact that I really might be a lot like Joey or like JD, the person who just wants to have a happy family and take care of them.
The more I think the more I can see tiny fragments of myself in each character. I've got the romantic side that JD does; that belief that true love really does exist even when it's not apparent to us. I've got the desire to be good at what I do like Eric in Just Dessert (he's the kind of guy who has his hand in everything), I'm a little like Max in Wildflower; everyone comes to him because they know he will get the job done. I'm a little like Annie's dad where he sees his daughter up in the middle of the night the night before she marries and makes a joke to make her smile because that smile is what makes him smile. I'm even a lot like Betsy from that book where I'd be the one ready to bust heads if a man like Jackson hurt my friend (or in her case, cousin).
True, most of my characters are different and they're not all like any one person I know, but they all have tiny pieces of me; they're all horcruxes if you will, but instead of holding on to a piece of my soul that would restore me to life should I die, they're there to spread the pieces of my heart that I share with my readers.Blue Ribbon now available at: https://www.createspace.com/3416252
