High vs. Low Virtue (a one line poem)

Of High and Low Virtue, let this much be known:

One’s soft as the water, the other hard as stone.

 

This poem takes aim at a phenomenon widely recognized in Eastern literature, but not well-accepted–or even tolerated!–in the West.  The idea here being that Low Virtue is the kind of virtue that everyone agrees is beneficial.  Honesty, integrity, fidelity, forthrightness, loyalty…these are fundamental human virtues which EVERYONE can agree are good things for society.  Without them, the world...
