Excerpt:

“Hey!” A familiar voice calls from down the beach.

“Oh my god! Marco, it’s him.” I whisper.

“Go inside.”

I quickly stand and begin heading toward the house. Liam is closing in on us. His clothes, the same ones he wore my first day in the hospital, are covered in grime and riddled with holes. His hair is a greasy mess, like he hasn’t showered in weeks. Something is wrong with him. He’s walking with a limp.

“Stop, Annie!” Liam shouts at me.

“Keep going, bella!”

Anxious nerves ball in my stomach, souring it and freezing my limbs. My mind acknowledges and wants to obey Marco. My body won’t cooperate. Liam is sprinting in my direction. My legs won’t move. My eyes wide, I prepare for impact.
