Kings of Paradise wins the IRDA for fantasy + update

The Award

Kings of Paradise has won a thing! (The IndieReader Discovery Award for fantasy)

Hurray! Now, how much this matters to book sales is anyone’s guess, but there’s not much question as an ‘indie’ you carry a certain aroma of poor quality, so every bit of evidence to the contrary helps.

The Update

Kings of Ash (Ash and Sand Book #2) is drafted and in the editing process now. The original goal was to publish in August, but I think this will be October (any delays really just for marketing reasons – bloggers/etc need time to read!).

Also I’ll (hopefully) be entering Kings of Paradise into Mark Lawrence’s 2018 Self-Published-Fantasy-Blog-Off (SPFBO) competition in July, which runs a full year and involves 10 bloggers as judges, and 300 indie books competing for the top-spot. Details here. http://mark—lawrence.blogspot.com/2018/05/call-for-review-site-singular-for-spfbo.html

At least two past winners/finalists have gone on to publishing deals, including Senlin Ascends by Josiah Bancroft, The Grey Bastards by Jonathan French, and probably a few others I’m missing. In any case this competition has become a fairly big deal, and a very exciting thing to maybe be a part of. Winning (or close) would also include the personal, non-success-exactly oriented goal of having Mark Lawrence maybe read my book. That is all I have to say about that.

Till next time…

Agreed! Hardcore fans will be assigned one (1) judge each to stalk for eventual blackmail, if necessary. Stay tuned.

Thanks so much Anton. Working furiously on book 2 (and 3!)...I'm afraid your flintlocks are going to have to wait awhile...

This is a bad news / good news sandwich (or rather toast). Now that I had a thorough re-read of Kings... - I am eagerly awaiting book #2 as well! But the flintlock novellas... God, they are so so good... You can't write them fast for me to read them. Also, how come other people don't pester you to write more of them?! I really look forward to the day you issue them as a big fat omnibus edition that I can devour without holding back even a little.
