Film options for both...

Desperation Road and The Fighter. I'll have some details to share in the coming weeks, but obviously pretty excited. Keep truckin'.

Ha. I'll see if I can get that written into the contract.

Douglas Loyd Congrats! Loved Desperation Road and (sheepishly) haven’t read The Fighter yet. Congrats though! Do you get to keep some creative control or are the adaptations going to be out of your hands?

I always worry that some film rights to amazing books get sold to someone who just sits on them and they never get made. (Example: Alec Baldwin owns the film rights to all of James Lee Burkes’ Dave Robicheaux books. Baldwin made a few but they didn’t do well at the box office and so almost 20 excellent would-be movies remain unmade.) (At least, that’s how I understand the situation.) I’m sure you know all about that sort of thing but I am stoked at the prospect of a film of Desperation Road. Fantastic book. You deserve every penny get from it.

If things go well, I’ll have a large hand in both. So we’ll see what happens. Thanks for the kind words for Desperation Road, and time to get to The Fighter.

Douglas Loyd I’m very happy for you and I hope the film adaptations live up to your expectations. You’re a truly gifted writer. Thank you for responding to my comment. That was quite thoughtful, generous and unexpected. (The Fighter is next in line on my reading list.)

Congrats. Your work is intensely visual; I hope Hollywood does each work, justice--especially with The Fighter. I just finished it recently and I was and am blown away.

Thanks for that, Caddell. If we get that far, I’ll make damn sure it’s done justice.
