RETROSPECTION
Retrospection: the act of thinking about what happened in one’s life in the past. The act of pondering upon situations, and incidents that took place in the past.
It is a trait unique to human beings. Uneasiness, regrets, a deep desire for time travel in past and change certain things we, humans suffer from all this and this feeling is often enough to drive one mad. Yes, we do claim to learn from our mistakes, from the past, but we have regrets more often.
I’m not immune to retrospection and this, when combined by my ability to over-think, often causes me exasperation.
The funny thing is, we often have regrets and retrospect when things are out of our control, when time has long gone past. I wish I’d told her how much I love her; Wish I had spent more time with them; I wish I had never fallen for him if I’f known he was trouble… the list goes on.
But retrospection must not be confused with regrets, although they may be linked.
Retrospection is good. Regrets are not. Retrospect in order to learn from your mistakes. Make it a habit each night to retrospect about your whole day before going to sleep. Think about what you did right, all the good deeds, performed by you. If they happen to be few or none, make sure to do some tomorrow. Think about if you’ve wronged someone or hurt someone. Make sure to apologise and make amends the next day. For those who’ve wronged you, try to forgive. if you’ve made mistakes, learn from them and grow.
But do not regret anything. Life’s too short for regrets. Whatever time you have is right now. So seize the moment and make it yours.
Until next time,
take care
have a great life
