Woman in Scarlet is a dream come true for me. It was five years ago that I sat down at my computer and started to tell my story. I didn't really know where to start but I was determined to document my journey as one of the first women in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The year was 1974, and the RCMP had been an all male organization for 101 years. Accepting women was as a result of political pressure and the social demands for equality. In the 1970's , women were burning their bras and singing 'I am Woman'. For me, I just wanted to help people and policing seemed like a great way to accomplish that goal.
Woman in Scarlet coming to fruition is beyond my wildest dreams, and now seeing the book cover gives me chills knowing what it has taken for my memoir to have been completed. I had never learned how to quit in my life, and I'm so happy that I didn't start with my book.
