The Lava

The lava flows like a stream of consciousness
Going to places unknown, unwilling to stop
It takes our homes, our lives, our faith
And we scatter like Pele’s hair throughout the world

We tell ourselves it will be over soon
And yet the lava flows… and flows… and flows
We can rebuild our minds tell us
And then the reality of a barren landscape hits

Land that will take a generation to reclaim
This is the land of Pele, she has made this clear
A new reality is upon us, and we must accept it
It is the life we live, life on a volcano

Today I arrived back to this place yet again
I am drawn to Pele, to this life, to this energy
To survey and plan, to start over
To experience something so few will ever understand
