Ditto what Rick said, and I'm sorry I haven't written myself to say so. Your work has brought me adventure, excitement, delight, and hope, for many many years. Very happy that Todd is picking up the torch (though he doesn't *quite* have the same flow and ease of reading as yours, yet. Will probably come with time.)

Not going to lie, I was not a reader until I got a hole of one of your short stories in a middle school literature book. After that there was no stopping me. I honestly can't thank you enough even though it led to a lot of detentions (reading in class) and groundings (kept hiding books around my room so I could read even if my parents took my books away) as a kid. Just wanted you to know how much I appreciate all the wonderful stories you've given me over the years!-Emily
Ditto what Rick, Beverly and Emilye said. I have been a fan of yours for over 30 years. Your was the first book that I read that was paranormal and sort of a romance. I wish I had written to you when you could have read it. The world was a better place because of you. You have given me many moments of enjoyment. I think I have read almost every book you ever wrote, from the Crystal Singer, to Freedom's landing, to the ships who sang, etc. But my favorites were and will always be the Pern series. To the McCaffrey family:
My heartfelt condolences go out to you. Know that she was loved by so many and we will all mourn her passing.
i also offer my heartfelt condolences. and although my writting is probably pretty poor i wrote a small something...“Harper, your song has a sorrowful sound,
Though the tune was written as gay.
Your voice is sad and your hands are slow
And your eye meeting mine turns away.”
― Anne McCaffrey, Dragonsong
If I the Harper be,
reason have I for a sorrowfull song.
Though bright and merry the song of her life may be written
and the years of her life were long
who can be gay on such a day?
My words have less value than hers
but they are heartfelt I do ensure
A great star has sizzled burned and died
but her legacy will endure.
this description was given by the one we now miss
and as i imagine hence they stand
as on she now goes
to another land
“Above us, outlined against the brilliant sky, dragons crowded every available perching space on the Rim. And the sun made a gold of every one of them.” ― Anne McCaffrey, Nerilka's Story
