For me, it’s all about story and always has been. I made up and told stories to my younger siblings before I knew how to write. I insisted my childhood friends act out my stories (even dressing up as the characters) as part of our play time. In school, I studied art, but within each painting, each drawing, there was a story. Writing a story, for me, is an act of creation that mirrors painting and sculpture and acting. It’s the love of story and organic creation – in this case, the manifestation of story through words via ink on paper (or font on screen) – that brought me to writing and it is what drives me. If I touch someone’s heart or brain through that creation and make a positive connection, then my joy as a writer is complete.
