Pete's Dragon - the 2016 movie version - FANTASY FLOP or FANTASY GENIUS?
We went to see Pete's Dragon this weekend, on the request of our little man after hearing from one of his day care teachers that it was "actually pretty good." In spite of my reservations on that, we agreed to take him. Result?
Fantasy Genius!
Why? First, the tale was freshly done. The opening introduced Pete, and immediately made you absolutely love him. Second, the story was great. There was good tension throughout, and the pace kept you going. Third, the actors and actresses portraying the characters were spot on. I admit (and not easily, mind you), that I cried at the end. Yep. Real tears. But the best part of the tale was that it definitely gives the audience the chance to believe that Dragons are real, in a way that does not come off as contrived or silly.
So double-thumbs-up from me on this remake.
