Things That Go Bump in the Night – Horror Week
I love paranormal romance. I enjoy vampires, ghosts, shapeshifters but nothing too scary and certainly nothing gory. But, there are degrees of “Horror” in the horror genre that I enjoy, though most of it would be with a strong romantic element or perhaps humor.
I write about shapeshifters and vampires, military experiments and magic primarily because I love the freedom of writing paranormal. There is so much for the imagination. The only limits are the ones you put on yourself when you build a world that you’ll write in. And, you don’t have to be politically correct for the most part. For example, my Leopard shapeshifters have elements of Leopard behaviors when they’re in human form. So, they can be more aggressive, where a contemporary normal human male behaving that way would come across as mean or be rejected by most modern women. I love that, with my writing in the paranormal genre, I can do anything I can imagine.
I lean more toward sexy supernatural and less toward the scary horror. There are some movies that I never finished watching because they were just too scary for me.
Give me Dracula! And if we’re going to watch a movie please make it the version of Dracula with Gary Oldman and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. It shows him as a beast in one scene and there is violence in the movie, but at no point do I forget that Dracula is influenced by love. It’s a love story.

I'm with you on Dracula...i was drawn into the genre when my dad took me to see Frank Langella in Dracula. Also a fan of Frankenstein, so misunderstood. But i also love to delve into a good Stephen King or Peter Straub novel.

But i also love to delve into a good Stephen..."Yes, that was a good version of Dracula as well. King is a little too scary for me, but I liked some of his other stories like Shawshank Redemption.
I have a friend who is a huge Frankenstein fan and has a series based on him.
I am anxiously awaiting the next Adam story!I also enjoy suspense horror where youre wondering who the villain is and when they are going to strike! One of the reasons i love your Leopard stories. You've written some amazing rogue Leopard killers that have me holding my breath as I'm turning the pages.
Love Gary Oldman, and Frank Langells as Dracula. Sexy, sexy!I enjoyed Van Hesling, with Hugh Jackman, sexy, and funny.
I'm a fan of The Creature from the Black Lagoon. That webbed hand sea man wanted the girl, everytime. But, the hero always won.
If you want to try Stephen King and are leary of the scary, I recommend reading Firestarter. It felt like sci-fi rather than horror, to me. I will, on rare occasions, go to a suspenseful or horror movie. I generally do not read horror, other than Stephen King. Some of my favorite stories are in his short story collections.
I like the suspenseful bits in paranormal romance. Normally I wouldn't read books with that much violence, but when it fits the story and I'm caught up in the story, it works. I started out adoring your Dark series. When I had read all of those, I discovered your other series and now I love them all.
As a kid, Dracula movies scared the heck outta me. But, the Dracula with Gary Oldman was amazing. And the love story drew me. I read the book several times. Vampires have always been my favorite creature to write about. When I was little, I wrote about horses (still do, but in the non-fiction genre). I veered away from horse fiction after discovering "good" vampires. So, by mid-90's I'd written my first vampire book. Since then, gore no longer bothers me in movies... when "Bram Stoker's Dracula" first came out, I could not watch the gory scenes. Now I can. I don't tend to read gory books, and there HAS to be love... All my books have something in them focused around love, even if the plot is not essentially love, it has to be there. I tend to read what I like to write. Do all authors feel this way? My two favorite authors are Anne Rice and Christine Feehan. AWESOME writing!!!Christine Church
