Be a friend – help an indie author out
So, how can you help an indie author and not even spend a single penny?
Oh, my! I’m so glad you asked!
You can be a Super Ninja Writer Friend by doing some simple things.
If you have read any of the writer’s work – it doesn’t cost any extra to post a review where you bought the book or on Goodreads! At Goodreads, you can set up an account, talk about and recommend books you like. So, as a reader, posting on Goodreads isn’t just good for writers you like, but you can find other authors there that have been recommended by other readers. I have found lots of new favorite authors there!
You can like and share social media posts. I recently released my newest book, “The Witch of Hadler’s Woods,” and it is exclusively found on Amazon right now. I was so excited when the book went live. I posted on Twitter and Facebook and told everyone that I could. However, only a couple of my friends shared those posts. If you are friends with a writer, even if what they write isn’t your cup of tea, you can still support them by sharing their posts so that people in your list of friends can see it. Who knows? You may have several friends that might be interested in reading and you helped a writer.
You can subscribe to the writer’s website or sign up for the newsletter.
Invite people on your friends’ list to “Like” an author’s page. For instance, on Facebook, I can only invite people on my friends’ list to “like” my author page, unless someone new makes a comment or “likes” a post I have made. I have invited people to like other authors whose work I support, but sadly not many people return the favor. In fact, they probably don’t even know I did that for them. Just imagine how much you can help a writer you like by inviting people — who you believe may be interested in their work — to like their Facebook page. You’d be a superhero! To do this, you just go to the author’s page (mine is https://www.facebook.com/lastorythewr...), then locate the “invite friends to like this page” option and then click on people you think might be interested. It’s pretty easy.
Those are all things that don’t cost anything and help support an author. So, why are these things important for indie authors? That’s easy. Independent authors, like myself, don’t have the perks of traditional publishing – a Public Relations department, an advertising budget … etc. They have no one in their corner but you.
I have several Super Ninjas already … but I can always use more!
So … be a Super Ninja Writer Friend! I know at least one indie author who would be forever grateful!
I wish you all a great day!
Hugs,
LA
