I'm on a panel on Saturday about YA. I'm not a YA writer so I'm going to draw heavily on the reading I did when I chaired the Sunburst jury. There is WAY more YA fantasy out there than SF. The YA SF stood out for its rarity. A pity really. Editors' choices ARE based, at least partly, on what happens in the marletplace; hence a mediocre YA vampire novel may have a better chance of being picked up than original YA science fiction.
Maybe that will be my rant!
I've added a link to one of Canadian author Carrie Mac's science fiction novels for young adults. Worth a read, speaking of YA SF. I've written in more detail about this book in a previous blog, NOTES ON THE SUNBURST.
I'll be reading and signing on Sunday at 11:30 and noon respectively. Stop by! It's an opportunity to catch up.
