Review: The Haunting of Hill House (2018 Series)

Finished Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House today and…I really liked it!

I’m not usually into horror, but I happened to have seen the movie version when I was younger and found it to be better than average. Plus it’s Halloween tomorrow so in the spirit of the season, why not give it a try?

I was hooked in the first episode, but then things got better. The feel here is subtle, psychological, and the story is built heavily upon relationships and character. Hey, that’s my favorite kind of story!

Marge I love The Haunting of Hill House as well. I thought they did a super job on how the characters related to each other. You mentioned that you had seen the movie version. I was just wondering which version - the 1960's version with Claire Bloom & Julie Harris (one of her best performances ever!!) or the more recent version with Catherine Zeta-Jones? I was really surprised how well the 2nd version came off. Most times when you have another version, it rarely ever is as good as the original. I thought the second version was almost as good as the original, and definitely not campy as I initially thought it would be!

Christine I didn't even know there was a more recent version. I definitely watched the 90s version, and haven't seen it since the 90s!

I'll have to check out the other one.

Marge I think it's a Netflix Original. If not Netflix, then Hulu. Definitely make sure to check out the version with Julie Harris. It's the scariest version, and my favorite!
