You got Bancrofted. But, disappointing as it may be, it's good company to be in.

If only I could have that much equanimity when something doesn't go as planned. I could make all sorts of (true to me) comments such as you were robbed, I can't believe it, a mistake on the judges part! However, as a fan of your work I am heartened to know you are going to keep writing, and keep trying to improve.

In this case it was just one judge, which is sort of the random factor of the contest. You've got one (unpaid) person trying to handle 30 books from tons of sub-genres, and then some son of a bitch like me gives them like 600 pages. Anyway, pretty difficult.

I have no doubt.
It was a shock to see your book fall so early, as I assumed (as many others) it would actually win the contest. But such is the nature of SPFBO and Iąll be sure to read Nicole's first semi with an open mind. Just know that a lot of people are eagerly waiting for your next books (me included, in the first raw, with a bunch of dollars in my hand).

Yo wrote: "I'm genuinely shocked. I LOVE your book!"Ah well thanks very much for saying so. Not to worry, the next book is coming regardless!
I was a bit concerned when I saw which group you got allocated to. Considering Weatherwax gave it 5 stars, it seems like a bit of bad luck. Better luck next time, and keep writing. I’m keen for book 2.

A great man tells us to treat triumph and tragedy just the same. I tend to think he means: don't fret or gloat over luck, good or bad. Appreciate the support. Book 2 is close, we'll get some things announced here relatively soon.
I've just seen this and I really can't believe it. Who cares what one blogger thinks, there are plenty of us who appreciate your work.
