Taboo

Excited that Maggie’s work will now be available on Word Press!

Maggie O'Byrne Poetry

Separated
To discuss
Unmentionable business
So we are told

As if in hushed
Knitting circles
How to get blood
Out of cotton
Little pills and t-shaped things
What happens when they fail
#metoo
But what now

We are educated
Now
Unlike our mothers
And grandmothers
Who were forced to rely
On old wives’tails

And yet
We cloister ourselves
Slightly ashamed
Mildly angry
Like penguins
Protecting their burdens
For a bitter world

Maybe because here
We are free
Maybe because
Out there
We
Are still
Taboo
