Anahit's collection of poetry is true to its name. The poems are full of colors, and they are rich with imagery and music. The theme of a soul painting her way through this world appears through many of the poems in the form of wings and birds, and the royal color purple also plays an important part. The persona of the poems converses with angels, depicting painting as a form of making or discovering one's destiny, as in the poem "I Look for the Hues" where shes asks the angels "Have you ever painted your destinies?", to which the angels reply "Before we were born in the world our destinies had already been painted."

In one of my favorite poems "Hallelujah," the poet states the dichotomy of the mortal with the immortal best with this line: "I am a mortal leaf of the immortal tree."

I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves short, lyrical poems with beautiful, whimsical imagery.
