One of the common critique's in the comments for book one was that the pace was a bit too fast. Book 2 was my attempt to slow down the pace a little and try to provide a little more back story to some of the characters and settings while setting up the foundation of the diverting story arcs. Also, the editor was different and disrupted the flow perhaps a bit, or it was me. Depends really which parts your talking about.
With Book 3 I'm back to writing how I want to write. its certainly more at pace with book one. New discovery, wonders, mysterious revelations, and battles keep the book at a good pace. Hired a career award winning professional editor this go around so I'm eager to see how it turns out myself.
Book 4 is a wild ride, So far its turning into my favorite one to write. I'm really happy with what I've created with this book. It also happens to be from Alex's point of view only, through the whole book. You'll have a really good hint as to why at the end of book three. I am hoping to keep a good writing pace, as the readers might only have to wait a couple months after book three publishes to get hands on book four. We shall see...

Thanks for the answer, Brian :) I'm still in the middle of reading book 2, but I am looking forward to Book 3.
