People often contact me asking when I'll make more videos. Well, as much fun as I've had making some of my videos, there's not much point in continuing to make them as long as YouTube keeps removing the damn things.
Just today I got a notice that my video How Chubby Nick Became a Hot Club Chick has been removed due to "sexually provocative content," despite the fact that there was no nudity, no sexual activity beyond a few frames of kissing AND the footage they're objecting to was my edit of a mainstream music video that continues to be freely available on the site. Today YouTube also made a couple of my book promo videos age-restricted, despite those clips being no more extreme than stuff you could see on broadcast TV at 8 PM on a Sunday night. They've been on quite a little censorship kick today!
I think my stuff falls victim to YouTube's "special rules" for kink and LGBT content. They're notoriously squeamish about trans stuff and unless you're somebody super lucrative like the Bad Lip Reading guy they also really don't like fan edits, mashups, etc. All hyperbole aside, at this rate I suspect it won't be long before my YouTube channel gets removed completely. People like me just do not fit where the site is headed.
So, that's why I don't spend my time making videos. I've tried Daily Motion, Vimeo, etc., but those sites don't have anything like YouTube's audience and too often my stuff gets banned there too. If somebody ever launches a decent rival site for YouTube, one where indie creators can share their work without having to worry about BS copyright strikes or getting slapped with "sexually provocative content" bans for stuff where you never even see a freaking nipple, I know there will be many, many creators and fans who will be very grateful.
