The hardest part about writing is sitting in the chair and staying there. Writers are amazing creatures. Our imaginations are boundless, and, oftentimes, get us into trouble. We can always imagine the most preposterous of situations, whether it be regarding our mates, children or friends. Writing, in and of itself, is generally pretty effortless for writers. What's hard is actually buckling down to do the work. Life gets in the way—housework, yard work, shopping, paying bills–all and more demand our attention. Despite that, we writers carve out huge swaths of our days and simply devote ourselves to writing, all the while trying to mute that little voice in our heads that tells us our time might be better spent doing something worthwhile. In our heart of hearts, we writers know that what's most important is to just keep writing, spinning out those stories, fashioning elegant poems and essays, honing our craft and all the while offering silent thanks to the muse for her continued inspirations.If you've got that urge to write, to capture a memory and put it to paper, just remember BITC. No, not bitch—although it can feel like a bitch at sometimes! Just get that lazy BUTT IN THE CHAIR!
