G.Finan's Author Notes
Miscellaneous reviews for The Rain Drinkers:
"The Rain Drinkers is a poignant 'coming of age' novel that follows 16 year old Jamie on his search for love, family and his purpose in life. Set on Long Island in the early 1900's, the story follows the newly orphaned Jamie on his journey from PA, through a gritty New York City, and finally to Bay Shore to find his estranged uncle. The transformation of the main character from an adolescent to a man is engaging, and the illumination of Long Island's duck hunting history is fascinating. I highly recommend this excellent read!"
"I lived in Bay Shore, New York from 1954 to 1962. From 1959 to 1961 I delivered NEWSDAY on 5 different routes to include Harrison Avenue. In my opinion with the different routes delivering papers I feel I have a good understanding how the hamlet is laid out. Note, Bay Shore never has been incorporated and is part of the Town of Islip. Most books I read it just seems an exercise of reading words, this author uses his craft to draw a person into the book and feel absorbed into the plots. If I were teaching English in high school it would be required reading based on many levels. One thing teenagers would learn is life is pretty good today compared to how youth earned their keep back in 1902 in Bay Shore. A must read."
"Captivating read! Very compelling story!"
