Interview with ME!

What are you working on next?
I'm currently working on The Final Battle, the third book in The Lunegosse Tales which will be published at the end of this month.

Who are your favorite authors?
Geonn Cannon, Jodi Picoult, Alethea Kontis, JK Rowling, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell, Claudia Christian

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My hamsters and my gerbil

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Watching Netflix, going to science fiction conventions, sketching, trips to the museum, charity fundraising, reading.

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually via announcements from my favourite modern day authors or bookbub

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I was five or six and it was about a poorly squirrel with a cold.

What is your writing process?
Open my laptop and write. That really is it. Once an idea comes to me, I generally just have to write it out.

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first one I remember reading was Matilda by Roald Dahl. I grew up in a rather difficult home situation and I really connected with the titular character, so it was fabulous to have that connection there. I wished I could find my own Miss Honey.

How do you approach cover design?
I've designed three myself, and one my sister (who is a photographer) has done for me.

What are your five favorite books, and why?
Wolf's Empire: Gladiator by Claudia Christian and Morgan Grant Buchanan - who doesn't love the idea of a Roman Empire that never fell? It's history and science fiction mixed together, with a kick ass female lead. The characters are well developed, the addiction subplot is sublime and I love it so much that I literally have it in every available format.

Salem Falls by Jodi Picoult - this was the book that introduced me to Jodi's work. Most people will say it was My Sister's Keeper, which is another excellent work, but Salem Falls gripped me in a way that I didn't know contemporary literature could. I'm a fantasy and science fiction reader and writer. Salem Falls was a complete break away from this and put me in a situation that was completely different to my normal reading. I was hooked by Jodi's style, the brutal honesty of her writing, and the compassion with which she treats all of her characters.

Babylon Confidental by Claudia Christian - this one is Claudia's autobiography and it's a must read for anyone with Alcohol Use Disorder, any Babylon 5 fan, and anyone who wants to read an honest account of a life with addiction. Claudia's candour on writing this book together with her writing partner, Morgan Grant Buchanan, is breathtaking. I laughed, I cried, I felt physically ill in places. But I couldn't put it down, and I don't read autobiography's as a general rule. The books juxtaposes humour with stark reality and it really is an amazing read.

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley - I couldn't go without mentioning this book which I first read at 12/13 years old thanks to my English Teacher, Mr John Harvey. The book created my love of dystopian fiction and caused me to fall in love with worlds that were similar but so very different to my own.

Riley Parra (series) by Geonn Cannon - I know this is cheating, but Geonn writes this series so well that I cannot choose just one book. It's beautifully written lesbian fantasy fiction and I can't get enough of it. It's also been turned into a webseries by Tello Films.

What do you read for pleasure?
Science fiction, fantasy, LGBTQ fiction (particularly lesbian fiction), and YA dystopian novels.

What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle Paperwhite
