Working

I'm deep in the throes of writing a new novel. I can't say anything about it right now. But as a result I find it incredibly difficult to read very much. A few pages a day at most. Mostly I stare at cereal boxes.

Michael Perkins I'm in the same state. Busy working on my own book, as well as helping a novelist friend do a developmental edit of her completed manuscript. It's more engaging than reading other books right now.

Michael--that's wonderful news! It's also, for me, just a matter of sheer exhaustion. Also that I find that my sensitivity to language is heightened almost painfully--that a lot of books I can't read, and others I find so good that they'll sway me to start writing like that (always a bad idea). So I'm stuck with my cereal boxes and a couple of pages of Steinbeck a day.

Michael Perkins Michael: I think it's wise for you to take a break for the reasons you give.

Thanks, Michael. It's always hard to not be reading voraciously, but I'm just not there right now. Hopefully once I finish this book (though when is a book ever finished?) I can dive back in.
