If you want a fast-paced fantasy read, start with Cast in Sand. It's a standalone novella and it takes place at the same time as the rest of the series.

If you want epic science fiction, start with Children of Atlas, followed by Black Crescent. If you want to know what is happening on the other side of the space station, you can take a break and read Cast in Sand in between the other two.
