"Envelopes of Hope," my first novelette, was inspired by a letter from a family member thanking me for not giving up on her. After having a substance abuse problem for over thirty years, she had made the decision to turn her life around.
This story is very meaningful to me for several reasons. One is that I never gave up on her, always hoping that she would have the desire to change her life around. It has been a struggle for her, but she has been clean for over three years now.
With the drug epidemic that we are experiencing in our society, I want this story to bring hope to other families that may be involved in the same situation. The message is to not give up hope that your loved one can make it out of the darkness he or she is in. Don't stop supporting them--don't enable them--but don't stop supporting them.
