Writing for yourself
I don't know about other authors because I haven't exactly spoken with any, but one of the best things I love about being a writer is the freedom to write for myself. I wrote the Ben&Angel series (twelve books) to help work through some dark issues from my past and the past of some of the people I love. I continued to write it because I fell in love with the characters and for me, they are real. I talk about them LIKE THEY'RE REAL. I wrote the Alec&Chelsea trilogy for the same reason. For me, they are real. But all the others books I'm writing (and there are quite a lot), I'm doing so because it's for ME. I spent so much energy creating the worlds for Ben&Angel and Alec&Chelsea. I spent many tears, hours of no sleep, frustration, angry phone calls, rants during a lunch date... just for those two worlds. In the end, I was happy with the result but I needed a break. I wrote them...but I haven't edited any of them. (That's a lie, I've edited books one through three of Ben&Angel) What I need now, is just to have fun, judgement free. One of my favorite things to do is take a fanfic kink and either write about it or make fun of it. Don't get me wrong, I'm guilty of reading these kinks and enjoying them, myself (how else would I know about them)...but the humor and banter that comes from it is hilarious. Perfect example would be in book one and two of my Alec&Chelsea trilogy. Werewolves exist and in the porn industry there's this thing about getting "knotted" by an Alpha. It becomes one of the main sources of humor in my book while Chelsea rants about that to the pack, with the ALPHA gazing at her in amusement and laughter. I'm hoping to get the copyright for my Trilogy soon so I can publish it. But for right now, I'm busy floating in my other worlds that I never intend to share so publicly. Just a few close friends and sisters that I know are just as sick and kinky as I am in the head ;)
