A New Novel About Bio-terror

There are very few things in this world more important than our health. That is why infectious diseases against which we have no immunity are so frightening. Large organizations such as the American Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the UN World Health Organization (WHO) exist to protect modern society from new and emerging infectious diseases.

But what if a destructive outbreak was not an act of nature. What if a group of people had carefully planned to unleash a destructive pathogen such as Ebola or the Marburg virus on unsuspecting victims. Biological agents are among the most frightening weapons being developed by nation states and a host of sub-national organizations. These agents do not discriminate between soldiers and civilians and are often aimed at non-combatants

For these reasons it is important for all of us to be aware of the dangers posed by such weapons. That is why the second book in the Janusz Soltani series deals with biological warfare. It is a frightening tale about the enormous costs, both human and financial, required to develop these weapons. As always, there is much spy craft and intrigue that happens behind the scenes as those seeking to deploy. and neutralize. these weapons battle each other in various locations around the world. From a laboratory in an Iranian village, to a casino in Monte Carlo, you won't want to skip a single page of this novel.

M.J. Javani The first draft of the second novel in the Janusz Soltani series is complete. I will spend the next few months self-editing and searching for a great editor. Before that, I will also send the manuscript to a select few individuals interested in Beta Reading for this story.

Book II is still in search of a worthy title. The story delves deeper into the psyche of the protagonist, Janusz Soltani, to ascertain what makes him tick. At the heart of the story is the decision by the Iranian supreme leader and his henchmen to carry out a deadly biological weapons attack against the US. The planned attack is in retaliation for Janusz Soltani’s sabotage of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) long range missile program in Book I.

When Janusz and Unit 81 become aware of the supreme leader's plans, they'll stop at nothing to defeat him. The story explores an impulse that has plagued humanity since ancient times, betrayal. There are many levels of betrayal in an espionage novel. There are also many reasons why people betray each other and their country. What sets this story apart is the exploration of this topic for a non-western society such as Iran. The world's most competent intelligence services have always understood the human desire to be satisfied and the inability of certain states to fulfill this desire. Those services most adept at exploiting this desire, are also the most successful at manipulating targeted individuals to betray their country.

Another topic the story grapples with, is the danger posed to global security by an energy rich theocracy. The Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) is a theocracy that seeks to spread Shia Islam around the world. The goal is to set the stage for the return of the 12th Shia "Imam Mehdi". With the world's second largest reserves of gas, and the fourth largest reserves of oil, the IRI has been able to survive economic sanctions for over forty years. Furthermore, it has financed a relatively advanced Research and Development (R &D) infrastructure for weaponry. What are the dangers of openly engaging in scientific exchanges with such a regime? Although such engagement is necessary for building trust between societies, allowing the scientists and engineers of such a regime open access to the accumulated knowledge of advanced countries poses definite risks.

All these topics and more will be explored in book II of the Janusz Soltani series. Release date is tentatively scheduled for Spring 2020, stay tuned!
