Congratulations to the 100 winners of my “Return to Shandalee” book contest. If you were a winner or purchased my book on your own, I have to forewarn you that this “coming of age” narration book contains elements of underage S-E-X and drinking, interracial romance, things that stupid teenagers do, murder, mystery, spirituality, religion and lack of it, and a surprise ending. Since it is a narration, it is told through the eyes and mind of a seventeen year old; he is not William Shakespeare. If you are offended by some of the slang from the sixties you may want parts of it redacted by a friend or neighbor before reading. If you never had a coming of age in your own life or the 1979 screenplay for the movie “Breaking Away” had no meaning to you then you may find one of my other novels to your liking. Or simply, read it and enjoy it for what it is, a teenager’s story from 1969, “The Summer of Love,” a transformation for the central character and those surrounding him in that amazing year. Having said that, being forewarned, I wouldn’t expect you to invest your time, read it from “cover to cover,” and then leave me a one or two star rating, complaining about the same things about which I have forewarned.
