A Taste of Something New (available for a few more days)

---I'll be taking this excerpt down shortly. The complete novel will be out in four or five months.----

I've made the opening chunk of the novel I'm working on available as a 99cent Kindle book. We're talking 60 pages of prose, so you can decide if it's worth your bother.

This isn't altogether finished copy. You grammarians hold your fire.

T.R. Pearson It's a very small morsel, and I'd rather be handing it out for free, but Amazon won't really allow that.

It'll be available for six weeks or so. Grab it if you like.

Kevin J. Sorry I missed this one but look to see the full book when it comes out. However if you are just finishing this and haven't started another I have a suggestion.

As a blubbering fan who has read and enjoyed all of your books I can say with certainty that you are the only author who can write the story of how members of our generation (I'm 64 also) could come to support Donald Trump. I am not talking about an outside look at clownish characters. I am talking about a sensitive recounting of how the folks you wrote about in "A Short History of a Small Place" came to the conclusion that a billionaire with no connection to their lives would be their savior. As a starting place I recommend the non-fiction book "Strangers in Their Own Land" by Arlie Russell Hochschild of UC Berkeley. The people described in this sociological study could be characters out of one of your books.

T.R. Pearson Hi Kevin,

The Trump ship has sailed for me. I could maybe have written something semi-sympathetic about Trump voters in 2016 -- they were conned, didn't want another Clinton, whatever -- but it's four years later. My Trump-supporting acquaintances hang with him for either ugly or delusional reasons. They don't leave a lot of room for sympathy. I'd only end up writing a screed.

Thanks for checking in.

Just wanted to say I LOVED it, and cannot wait for the rest to appear. I read it quite awhile ago, but for some reason couldn't comment -apparently there was trouble with the app. But the "hooray" stands!

T.R. Pearson Hi Beth,

Thanks for reading, and I'm pleased you enjoyed it. This is turning into an interesting novel. I'm still writing and rewriting and rearranging. It may be a little while.

Thank you for checking in.
