Greetings!
I hope this message finds you well.
As I sit writing from the comfort of my favourite recliner, trying to keep cool from the hot Aussie sun, I am reflecting on what it means to be a writer. As most of you know, my first novel, Tales Behind the Tombstones was published in October last year. Apart from the births of my three beautiful babies, it is my greatest accomplishment thus far.It is an occult horror fiction that took me three years to write and close to a year to edit; I am somewhat of a perfectionist, especially when it comes to my craft. I had thought the hard part was over. Writing it, then editing it, checking over my editors proof, going over layout design, cover design and reading it, reading it and reading it again. And just when I thought I was done reading it for the sixth time, I read over it again and still found things that I felt needed to be corrected or changed. The writing and editing part wasn't even the most difficult, even though I struggled with writer's block more days than not. It is the marketing side. Having chosen the route of independent publisher and not traditional (although from what I hear independent authors are becoming more of a tradition), and being that the funds I had allocated to invest in my budding career as an author (one can only hope), were limited, I could not afford to purchase any marketing which left that completely up to me.
I had great success with the first forty-five copies being sold within the first two weeks, a promotion on Amazon saw one-hundred-and-forty-eight copies fly out the door, as well as a paperback sold through their print-on-demand service and more than ten-thousand pages read on Kindle Unlimited within three months. Getting reviews is paramount to authors, especially indie authors like me. Reviews help get our books out there in front of the eyes of more readers and in turn, we gain more reads and reviews.I am not too proud to beg. If you have read the book, please leave a genuine review or rating on either Goodreads or Amazon. It would mean the world to me and help turn my dream of becoming a successful author into a reality.
I wish you success in all that you do.
Warmest wishes.
