Thoughts on the current state of the world with the COVID-19 Crisis

[image error] I’m home from my day job with a migraine today and not in the mood to get into a political war. I have a strict rule of no politics or religion on my social media. Times right now are uncertain and for lack of other terms on the brink of insanity. I know because it’s got my anxiety on overdrive these days. The media does not help matters and if you want a true account of things read from multiple outlets so you can figure out as close to the truth as possible. There is no such things as an unbiased media opinion. You have to read from both sides to find the middle ground yourself. Most of us are clearly on one side or the other but I implore you all to educate yourselves on things before passing judgement. Do not take the media at its word. They are biased viewpoints of people who already have formed opinions about each side of things. Read the legislation that congress is voting on for yourself. If you fail to educated yourself and remain ignorant to the real truth then you allow yourself to be a slave to what the media wants you to know and what the politicians want you to know. Then your lack of the real truth is your own fault. We have a duty to ourselves and to the future generations to gain this knowledge so we can fight for ourselves and our future. Yes I am keeping my own opinions out of it and my own thoughts to not start a war. I am saying nothing more than please read everything you can from every source you can. The more sources you read, the more chance you have of knowing the real truth. You know that saying that opinions are like assholes and everyone ass one? It’s the truth. I see that more and more every day. Before I switched to studying the legal system, I was studying history. My specialty is Medieval to Early Modern Europe and I know the Black Plague all too well. I also know from my studies that history is not written by the losers but the victors. It is not written by the dead but the survivors. There are people saying now that we are living what will be a history class one day. Right now our choices are important. In times like these I think of quotes from two book series that really stand out. One being Tolkien who took his inspiration from his survival and PTSD after fighting in World War I and the other from JK Rowling who got her inspiration after overcoming severe depression (take that haters who down the Harry Potter books and have not even cracked the cover of the first book. If you would actually read you would know they are not encouraging the practice of witchcraft at all. That’s a soapbox for another day though.). These quotes are important in trying times such as these as they are about people in trying times. I don’t want to feel like I’m living in what is becoming something Dystopian. However, I am a writer and it is hard for my imagination to not run wild. My point here is that in my study of history we have to learn from it or we are doomed to repeat it. In the here in now, we must not fall to ignorance. We have to make sure we are aware of everything going on in our current situation so that our situation does not become something worse than it already is. I will not call people out. I will not be a person that says these people are not doing this. I will say I think everyone in the government is acting like overgrown children and they all need to get it together and focus on helping the people not pouring millions upon billions of dollars into businesses. I think as people we need to educate ourselves, call out our people in the government and tell them to fight for us as people, help each other because the the actions of the hoarding has been terrible, and think about spreading more kindness into this world. Right now what we need is a government focused on the people and more love in this world. There’s still too much hate going on even in times like this. Think about that people. Think about kindness. Think about the good we can still do for others because we still aren’t doing enough. People are sick, people are dying, people are struggling because of loss of income and jobs. Right now we have to think of everything we can do that’s good and focus on that while we get through these times. They’re hard and it’s hard. I’m stressed and my anxiety is making me so crazy. I just still want to know that good exists. I leave you all with these quotes. [image error]

“Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.” – quote by Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by JK Rowling

“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by JRR Tolkien

“It is our choices that show who we truly are far more than our abilities.” quote by Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling

“Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam? Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.” – from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers by JRR Tolkien (movie adaptation)

All the best,

Helena
