Hoarding masks

Hoarding Masks

An editorial cartoon for WorldECR magazine. The brief was to use animals so that the subject (hoarding and commandeering medical supplies during the pandemic) and specific country was not too on the nose. The first sketch I did was still too literal:

And the sketches went through a few iterations before we got to the final version, including this more complex version, which admittedly isn’t as clear but I do like the guys on the far sides.

Inevitably, the initial sketch had much more drama and character than the final version, which feels a bit watered down. I still haven’t figured out how to solve this:

M. Jones Brilliant. They're all amazing. How long do each of those iterations take to do?

Jason Pym Thanks :)

A couple hours for the digital sketches, but the analogue version (sketch, watercolour, coloured pencil > scan > photoshop cleanup) takes a day - if I was smart I'd figure out how to get the same effect digitally, but I really like the hands on feel of real paper.
