I Am So Excited!
For those of you who have been following me on all my social media, you know that there has been radio silence from me for a little over two years with sporadic posts throughout that time. Here is my full transparency.
Two years ago, I could not find the words to write. I had such a severe writer's block that no matter what genre I sat down to write, the words would not flow out of me. It was beyond frustrating and I thought maybe publishing wasn't something I was cut out for after all. I was depressed over it and I just gave up. Then I got married and my writing habits slipped away from me due to working hard and focusing on my marriage.
Upon seeing my husband working hard in school while working, I thought to myself "You always wanted to go back to school and obtain that second master degree in English and Creative Writing. Why don't you do it?" After talking with my husband and parents, who gave me a tremendous amount of support, I went ahead and enrolled in Southern New Hampshire Univeristy.
One of my classes required us to plan a novel or short story. I decided not to use anything I had on the backlog and wrote something fresh. That story was The Broken Daughter. It was during this class that I realized why I hadn't been able to write for so long. I wasn't writing for me. I was writing what I thought readers wanted and maybe I didn't realize it before, but I do now.
When I first came into publishing, I thought I had to write what people wanted to read (romance and erotic romance made up 90% of my Facebook friends and readers) instead of writing what made me feel good and what made me enjoy writing in the first place.
I was able to finish The Broken Daughter in six months! The shortest time it had taken me to write anything! BETA readers was happy with the new writing. My in-laws, who edit for me, were amazed. My own husband told me he had never read anything by me that had him so intrigued! This was the response I have gotten since I released the pre-order.
The Broken Daughter came at a time when I needed it the most and made me realize that Fantasy is where I belong. Made me realize that a book doesn't have to have a romance subplot just to succeed. Will Aymeri and Drystan fall in love? I'm keeping that a secret and you're all just going to have to read the series to find out. Maybe it will be a slow burn, maybe not.
But what I do know: this is the kind of writing and dedication you are going to get now that I have found myself!
If you haven't already, check out The Broken Daughter. It's available on Amazon on Kindle and in Paperback!
