The Time Is Now
All my life it both has frustrated and amazed me how 'times of reckonings' only seem to occur immediately after white people commit racists acts against us blacks. But before these crimes or acts, our demands or concerns are belittled and ignored. Our groups and organizations are labeled as troublemakers and agitators, our leaders denounced as unpatriotic. That is...until an uprising. And why does it always have to take this for change to happen? Why must it take rioting and burning before it dawns on white people that they were wrong and our concerns should have been dealt with a long time ago?
For several decades blacks complained about the racist confederate flags to no avail...until the mass church shooting by a confederate flag waving hillbilly changed their minds. And now white people are scrambling to take them all down.
For several decades blacks complained about confederate statues and monuments to no avail...until the broad daylight murder of George Floyd by a racist pig. And now white people are scrambling to take them all down.
Suddenly, in this country born of racism, oppression, genocide and murder, black concerns are now being taken seriously by the powers that be. Too little too late, definitely, but still better late than never at all. No more will any racist movie or Tv programs be allowed to air. No black-face will be worn by racist whites without suffering consequences. Felony Jail sentences and loss of livelihood for calling police on blacks for simply walking in a park, jogging, stopping to smell the roses or just breathing the same damn air. Use of the N-Word by whites will cancel their careers even if it was written or uttered yesterday or 50 years.
That said, it brings to black conscience the writings of Stephen King. The horror novelist who has scribbled the N-Word countless times in 80 percent of his books...not to mention an assortment of other racist black slurs. There is no excusable reason at all that every single black character he creates must eventually be called the N-Word. We're now working on protesting and boycotting any advertisers, publishers and forcing those novels out-of-print.
There is a group here on Goodreads called "Stephen King Fans" that are jammed-packed with racist sympathizers (moderators included) of Stephen King (save for a few). The population of this group is 99 percent white, and they have made some of the most asinine excuses for Stephen King's use of the N-Word in each and every single damn instance. Stephen King can do no wrong in their privileged eyes. They absolutely adore the use of a word because it doesn't affect them. None of them are African American except for a brainwashed few, therefore they are clueless about how blacks feel. But that doesn't matter anymore. It is now a new day and age for the African American people. The same as we are eliminating other racist crap, Stephen King will also be dealt with.
