Lift Off

Here I am, writing my first blog entry. Where to begin? At the beginning, of course.
My novel " Going to Empty-Through the Tunnel of Jealousy" was written over several years while I was raising two children and working full-time. It was completed just over a year ago when I retired and moved to the stillness and peace of the woods.
The story came from those I was privileged enough to work with in my forty plus year career in human services, serving humans in the role of educator, mediator, trainer, facilitator, and nurse. During that time I worked with addicts, bulemics, runaways, high school dropouts, cancer patients, suicidal people, young women riddled with anxiety, and the list goes on and on. In other words, the walking wounded. And what did I find at the core of each wound, a defining deficit of self-love, sense of worth and feelings of being enough as they were. No mistaking it, those hungry eyes. They may have been different shapes, sizes and colors, but the bottomless gaping hole was unmistakable. I recognized it immediately because I had become intimately acquainted with my own. Hence, Olivia DeMarco, the protagonist of my novel was born.

Sooze Sigel I am happy and excited to leave a review for this book. In Di Ucci’s book Olivia finds herself consumed in the addictive nature of jealousy repetitively engaging with her deepest fear. In a very compelling story the author, Ucci, takes us on Olivia’s journey as she courageously searches for support and wellness and finds wholeness on the way. The characters are seemingly so real. And, the book very well written and I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down.

Di Ucci Sooze, thank you for your comments about my novel. It seems you truly got a sense of the intention I held while writing the story. Having lived through that destructive emotion, I wanted others who struggle with relentless and disastrous behaviors and/or feelings to engage with Olivia's path and see that with persistence, determination, and deep self-exploration there is a way out.

Jeanne Elizabeth When will there be a sequel? Anxious to hear how Olivia’s journey develops now that she has found some peace for herself.

Di Ucci It won't be a sequel, but it will address when peace is found within, more of a non-fiction piece. Olivia was always looking outside of herself for that magic bullet, the one that would bring her the calm and security that many of us would like to possess. I am currently writing about how we find our way there, and when we do, what unfolds for us.
