While the costs of healthcare are staggering, they actually represent more the “consequences of the way we currently work.” At a recent event discussing the future of healthcare, Frans van Houten, CEO of Royal Philips discussed ideas he felt were paramount to realizing the potential of the information and tools that we have at our disposal.
Inclusion is necessary to increase access to the nearly 15% of the US population.
Increased productivity and efficiency is necessary in order to radically lower systemic costs – including “designing scalable, repeatable processes and workflows that optimize care delivery.”
Seamless transfer of information is vital to decrease treatment time, minimize waste, and increase treatment effectiveness.
Innovation – including public and private partnerships, emphasize the creation of new ways of practical thinking.
Finally, outcomes are the reason that healthcare exists – all of these themes are ultimately about “better ways to deliver the right care in the right place at the right time.”
