Bill & Ted's Delayed Adventure

My BILL & TED story...

Back in the early 80s De Laurentiis studios filmed a movie called MILLION DOLLAR MYSTERY in northern Arizona. I was hire to pick up the costume designer at the airport in Phoenix and drive him around the valleys to shop for wardrobe for the movie. When he found out my background as a theater designer, I was kept on to do costume shopping after he left for filming on Lake Powell.

Because of my work, I was offered a Production Assistant job for another film the studio was shooting in Tempe, AZ. It was BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE. Unfortunately, I had a commitment to help man a booth at the NY Toy Fair for four days in the middle of the shoot. I begged to be released from the commitment but no dice, so I didn't get the PA job.

Now here's something most Bill & Ted fans don't know. MILLION DOLLAR MYSTERY was such a bomb—called the worst movie of the 80s—it drove De Laurentiis studios into bankruptcy and they couldn't release BILL & TED. It sat in the can for two years before it was released by a different studio and became a big hit.
