Writing Novels, Going Forwards
Okay, so having blogged about a few of the things that have happened and that are coming up, I thought I'd take a bit of time to talk about my current novel projects.
The Magic of Wisimir
This has been much delayed since I finished the third book in the series, I'm hoping readers have remained patient and I can only apologise for the wait. Currently, I 'm around sixty percent through the first draft and need to get back into the story before I complete it.
What has been nice in the meantime has been the people who've discovered the Wisimir series through Wattpad or my other projects. I've always felt it deserved an audience, which it hasn't quite got. I'm seeing a steady stream of new interest, which hopefully, will grow as more things get done.
The Magic of Wisimir is something of a departure. The previous book, The Lord of Wisimir exposed Jack von Drey for what he is - an inadequate leader for the city. The plot turns again, as we learn more about the past and present of the sinister wizard, Magister Leel.
Chaos Reborn: The War of Orders
This will be the sequel to
Dreams of Chaos
and picks up the story a few years after the end of the previous instalment. Like Dreams of Chaos, The War of Orders is a novel in three parts. The first part is complete, the second part is nearly complete. The project is currently on hold until sales of Dreams of Chaos justify the time I'd need to put in to finish the story.
Judgement: Earth
This is a rather strange novel I started writing in mid-2016 before all the political change of the UK referendum on Europe and the American election. Its about an alien who comes to Earth to destroy it and how it hides amongst us as it goes around the world to enact its plan. The story is set in 2016 and features some of the prominent events of the year. Its inspired by Alan Grant's Doomlord character from the Eagle comics of the 1980s. As of today, the first half of the novel is drafted. The second half is ready to start.
The turmoil of the second half of 2016 provides me with a lot of source material for the next bit of writing, but I need to get it absolutely right.
Fearless
This is a new standalone hard science fiction military SF space opera set in the twenty-third century. After the good reception The Last Tank Commander and Dancers received, I decided to see if I could write a longer story in the same style. Fearless is that novel, drawing together a set of themes from some of my favourite Science Fiction of recent times.
Currently, this novel is also, half complete, with twenty chapters in draft format. I'm intending to finish it over the next couple of months.
The BFS Journal
BFS Journal issue 17 is now out to members. The call for papers for Issue 18 will go out shortly. I've a plan to ensure the issue is complete just before Fantasycon 2017I'm particularly proud of the current edition. The articles are excellent and there's a real sense of progress to the structure of the journal. The contributors to the last three editions have been making some excellent insights into the Fantasy, Horror and Science Fiction genres.
Other Projects
The short stories for Phoenix Point are going really well. People seem to like what we're up to. Here's a list of my stories:
The Old Man of the SeaRecruitingThe Claimed IdolFragments of Knowing
These narratives are gradually building a picture of what's happened to our world between 2017 and 2047, the start of the game.
I'm also working with another franchise at the moment. The fan base is bigger than anything I've worked with before and is run by company that I have always wanted to write for. I'm currently working up pitches and outlines. More information to appear soon!
