Are Smartphones Causing Psychosis?

There’s a new article out by Nichi Hodgson in the online magazine The Critic entitled Psychosis in an Age of Surveillance Capitalism. Nichi interviewed me for the piece, and there is a quote from me in it, but that is by no means why I am encouraging people to read it. It is a fascinating exploration of the role smartphones are playing in mental health, particularly those who experience psychotic episodes. It explores everything from the paranoia that arises when one thinks their phone is spying on them (and remember, just because you are paranoid doesn’t mean you are wrong), to mental health apps that try to treat psychosis, to the privacy and health concerns that arise from these phone-based treatments. It’s a fascinating and important read, sincerely.
