Deja Vu

My last blog post was about The Fourth Haunting, the novel completed last autumn and currently in the hands of my agent.

Prior to writing that, I felt the urge to go back to New Hope Island, the principle location of my Colony trilogy, despite its cold remoteness and the grim phantoms from a bloody past that stubbornly haunt the place. The truth is, I like New Hope.

My question is, would anyone else? I stopped after 29, 000 words, thinking that a trilogy involving a fourth instalment has surely outstayed its welcome. So I stopped probably just under a third of the way through and didn't delete the file (I'm not that rash).

The premise is that the head of a Moscow based centre for psychic research thinks New Hope a promising location for a bit of experimentation. In this of course he's horribly wrong. I'd got to the point where he's beginning to realise that, but his backers are people who wouldn't take kindly to his getting cold feet.

Some of my trilogy characters feature. Patsy Lassiter, Phil Fortescue and Ruthie Gillespie all become embroiled. Is it worth pressing on? All comments welcome.

Emily Fraine New Hope is still out there, and it waits........
I have recently re-listened (I listen to audiobooks when I work) to the New Hope trilogy and would be thrilled if it were to become a quadrilogy.
I think that malicious bit of rock has more stories to tell, and it would be great to see what Ruthie is up to.

Mclair71 I would love to read it! If you'd enjoy immersing yourself in those characters and in that place again we would all benefit. Love the premise you shared. Just thinking about New Hope is delightfully and reliably uncomfortable. Hope you and your family are well in these deeply difficult times.

Helen Carolan Id love another installment of New Hope island. I always feel like it's still out there waiting to scare the hell out of me again.

Venda New Hope for me is like the Overlook. Looming, sinister, and timeless. I don't think I could ever get sick of reading stories set there. And I love Ruthie to pieces, it would be great to see more of her.

S.R. Oh please continue this! I love The Colony trilogy and would gladly pick up a fourth volume. This premise sounds great and the thought of spending more time with Patsy, Phil, and Ruthie makes me very happy!

Sue Have only read the first book but I have the rest of the trilogy on kindle. I have been “saving” them to read. I will read any of your books and have been since I first discovered House of Lost Souls. If you have material for another episode, I say go with it!

Jodie OK, looks like I am going to be the dissenter here. Absolutely loved the Colony trilogy - have read them all 3 times. Sad as it might be, I think it is done. There was resolution - the phantoms are laid to rest.
I remember how disappointed I was when Ian Malcolm who died in Jurassic Park, suddenly was alive again in the sequel. Don't get me wrong, I liked Ian, I was sad he died, but I digress. The pursuit of too much of a good thing often takes away from the original greatness - we see it in TV series all the time. If you can get Patsy and Phil and Ruthie back together in a new mystery, it will be great, but I feel New Hope is finished with.
I have enjoyed every book of yours that I have read, so looking forward to the new one.
