Hi Richard,I'm not too sure where to start. I stumbled across your book by pure coincidence.
A series of events led me to consider the possibility of writing my own book. My partner convinced me that I could easily move to a 4 days week, and devote one day to writing. This suddenly very possible prospect felt like a window opening in a room in dire need of fresh air.
But what was I going to write about? Quickly ideas started pouring. I decided I would right a 'semi-fictional book which would also be the report of a self-experiment (I'm a neuroscientist, that might explain a few things!). The experience would be to write my life as if I had realised I was in a dream, and therefore have much more impact over external phenomena than I think. A bit like in a lucid dream, but applied to real life. What would I do differently if I was dreaming? Where would be the limits to what I can change? In the worst case scenario, nothing notable happen, but at list I have given serious thoughts about how would I go about changing things in my life and the world, which in any case is a valuable exercise, and well worth devoting one day a week to...
I already new that Lenon's song lyrics would figure as epigraph...
My next thought was to look at what had already been done along these lines. This is probably not such a novel idea (most spiritual teachings point toward this realisation that we are, indeed, dreaming). Many before me must have written similar scenario, and with that, I started my search.
It did not took me long, I just had to put my tentative title, Imagine, to the Google test, and 'tada' : Imagine, by Richard A Harris. After reading the book's description, I got it straightaway as my next audible listen.
I love it, I love the feeling of hope, light and empowerment it conduces. Listening to your book makes my heart smile in pure delight. What you did is such an important thing. We should all do it in some way: dream our way out of this mess. These positive scenarios help us see more clearly what stands in the way of our happiness, whether as an individual or a specie... not that much actually, just egos, brain states that carry with them fake sense of identities, belonging and separation, brain states that can be so easily wiped off under certain conditions, or substances…
What a truly beautiful thing to do than to give back to humanity, for once, a reflection of what it can be / could be at its best… If only we could wake up from the shared nightmare we decided to call reality. If only…
Your book is a great inspiration and I want to express my most sincere gratitude, for envisioning a future like this one.
I was also astonished, when I read more about you, to find out that you had undertook this project in a very similar way to what I am planning to do, devoting one day a week to it.
Needless to say that this finished to convince me that I have to do this!
To finish on a slightly more practical perspective, I would love to hear more about your process, how long it took you, any advice you might be able to give me, from one dreamer to the other.
With my deepest gratitude and admiration
Valerie
Hey Valerie,What a wonderful message. Thank you so much. Very much appreciate your words and thougts. I really look forward to reading your work and encourage you to get right into it. It took me several years. I was writing two novels at the same time and basically working hard being a vascular surgeon as well. I was very disciplined and tried to devote Thursday to Imagine and Friday to the next one. Which I am determined to finish this year. If you go to my website richardaharris, com you will come across lots of media and podcasts where i talk a lot about the process. It was an absolute joy and I hope you follow that path of creativity you have within you.
Your letter above is a beautiful recommendation of my hard work and if you ever get a chance to write a little review on amazon or here on goodreads it would be much appreciated. You can subscribe to my very irregular newsletters on the website and I am happy to correspond with you further if you would like to know more.
Kindest regards
Richard Harris
