Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! ☘️🇮🇪☘️ My great grandfather was from Ireland. He had a terrible youth in an orphanage and became even harder when he faced such prejudice in the “land of opportunity.” Shaped by strife, his mark is still felt on our family.

Our Irishness was always connected to that pain and shame. Like many families, it was easier to turn a back to the Old Country and focus on the new. But I don’t choose to forget. I choose to remember and to learn and to grow from his legacy.
