Reading
Why are some people avid readers and some never read at all? What is it that makes me one of those that loves to read?
Recently a friend of mine send me a note. She has joined my email list and responded to a broadcast that I sent out. Basically she told me that she is not a reader. She has some old medical text books left behind by an ex-boyfriend that she has never read and never will.
Personally I look forward to the end of the day when I can put my pj’s on and cuddle up in bed with a good novel. For me, it is my quiet time. I can put aside my personal drama, forget about the day and get lost in someone else’s story for a while.
There are so many different genres with many different types of books to choose from. There are genres that don’t interest me much like memoirs and biographies, but some people like those just fine. But, there are so many genres that I do enjoy reading like dramas, mysteries, and occasionally even romance novels.
I think it is wonderful that there is such a mixture of books available to read. The sky is the limit. If you can imagine it, I bet there is are hundreds of stories that relate to what you imagined.
If the story is made into a movie or a play, I do like to read the book first before I go to the theater to see it. For example, I had just finished reading Phantom of the Opera and a friend took me to see the play. Although I already had read the book and knew the story in advance, seeing it performed live was fantastic. I first used my own imagination to interpret it in my mind and then was able to see how someone else interpreted the same content to write the play. Their version was a bit different than what I had imagined. For me reading a book and then seeing it in production is a win, win.
So to my friends that don’t read I kindly suggest that you go into a book store and take a look around. I just bet there is a book in there that will interest you on some level. And, the best part is, when you find a book that you read and enjoyed, you can now pass it on to a friend so they can enjoy it too. Happy reading everyone.
