The Lost Colony of Roanoke: Did They Survive? – National Geographic, Archaeology, Historical Records and DNA

This is a very interesting article ... about what it says its about in the title... but one of the great things about it is its ability to dissect what led to the colonists landing in Roanoke. It's quite an extensive history, and of course it dives into the politics of the time period.

It also explains why DNA is not more widely used to "discover" where the colonists ended up, if they survived.

My foray into the wondering about it extended from J, after we watched the Buzzfeed Unsolved episode about the lost colony of Roanoke. "Why don't they just do DNA testing on the Native Americans [in North Carolina]...?" J asked, and I was like... "I don't know, but I bet there's a good reason."

Yeah, there is. I won't spoil the last one-third of the article.
