Typos, proofreading, and rooting out fleas

A Hag Rises from the Abyss, Book 3 in my Alexander Southerland, P.I., series is ready to go, and I'm moving up my launch date from May 21 to this coming Friday, May 7. I'm excited about this for the usual reasons, but also because I think that this is going to be the cleanest manuscript I've ever launched. I am reasonably confident that I have rooted out all of those pesky typos that seem to persist no matter how hard I try to eliminate them.

I wrote about typos, proofreading--and flea baths--in my latest blog at douglaslumsden.blogspot.com.

D. Hall My sentiments exactly. Some typos can be resilent like weeds. I've read loads of books with typos, and mostly you do just replace as you read. But when I find them in my own work I feel like I'm being laughed at and I was a technical editor for several years. As for reviews it's true, I leave them mostly if I like a book. And I'm always surprised that my reviews don't match sales. Have to say I do wonder what people think of my work, but take too much to heart.

Douglas Lumsden Typos are a humbling experience. I can't believe the number of times that I leave out a quotation mark. I also have a nasty habit of changing a character's name back and forth (Edie becomes Jenny and then goes back to being Edie, sometimes within the same paragraph). And then I don't catch it, even when I've read the passage multiple times. I'm convinced that someone (probably my cat) is sneaking on to my computer during the night and messing with my manuscript.
