I thought my first blog post on here should be a bit of a get to know you. My name is Lyndsey LaVan and I've been writing for what seems like forever, but Burning Rose is my first debut novel by Lavatack publishing.
I grew up in Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie and it's now where I make my home. But I have lived and traveled to many places: Long Island, Fire Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Boston, Louisville, and Orlando among many others around the country. I have grand plans to see other countries around the world.
My dream visits are Iceland, Ireland, Scotland, Norway, England, Italy, Portugal, France, Greece, and Croatia. Hopefully, someday I will make those a reality. I am drawn to the sea in all its forms and I find peace where the water laps the shoreline.
I have two half-grown children. A boy who's sixteen and has Cerebral Palsy. He is funny, smart, quickwitted, sassy, and fun. He is also wheelchair bound, medically fragile, and dependent. It's not a simple life, but it's an adventure.
I also have a girl, fifteen, who's currently obsessed with all things Kpop or anime. She is an avid reader and has finished the first draft of her very own full-length novel. She dyes her hair in wild colors, is an amazing artist, and has a kind spirit. A blessing.
I'm currently married to a funny guy who I lovingly refer to as Man Beast and who puts up with my nonsense with grace and eye rolls. We had a Star Wars themed wedding in a movie theater before the seventh movie came out---that tells you everything you need to know about us.
There are four cats who reside in my home that I've sort of... collected over the years. Three are black cats and one is elderly gentlemen in orange.
The one that has been with me the longest known as Darth Kitty (aka DK) was found in the winter outside and brought to me by a cousin who's now passed away.
Our elderly gentlemen (who loves the man-beast more than me) was in a PetSmart waiting to be adopted at ten years old... we went in for a kitten and came home with him.
I found our other two teenage black cats as sickly kittens... with infections... near death. I took them in only to heal them but after all the Vet visits and snuggling... they stayed.
I'm a huge geeky nerd who is obsessed with Aliens, Ancient History, myths and legends, Video Games, paranormal, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Supernatural (I'm a Dean girl), Disney and Space.
Music plays a huge part in my life. I'm an avid fan of all genres and my playlist often skips from Reba to Pantera or from Luke Bryan to Tupac. I use music when I'm writing and there is no doubt it influences the books. I even have a playlist called "This is War" for when I need to write battle scenes.
Books, needless to say, are my passion. I have an entire library in my office full of books and we make it a point to have books in every room of our house. I buy more books than I'll ever read... And I love them all.
Three favorite places to visit:
1) The Outer Banks in late summer.
2) New York City at Yule time
3) Disney World during the food and wine festival.
Three favorite foods:
1) Chocolate & Raspberry ice cream---Magic Brownies by Ben & Jerrys but they don't make it anymore :(
2) Roast, mashed potatoes, and brown sugar carrots as a meal
3) Biscuits and gravy made by the Man Beast
That's probably more than enough for the first post. Probably more than you even wanted to know.
