People have a tendency to resist change, despite evidence that the present paradigm could lead to their own destruction. In the past, scientists and theologians alike experienced great upheaval when it was discovered that Earth was not the center of the universe. Old beliefs, especially those of the past millennium, aren’t relinquished easily by most, even when the fallacy of those beliefs becomes evident. But there always comes a time in mediocrity when people are ready to grow away from the false sense of security found in the familiar, a time when they recognize the old way of thinking as a springboard to higher learning.
