Book Review #6

[image error] Escaping Eleven by Jerry Chisholm

This book was a joy to read. And let me tell you…I am not a fan of stories like this. A future where the world is altered and Earth is uninhabitable. Hitting a little too close to the sci-fi line for me. But this book kept my attention pretty well. So let’s get started.

In this book, the sun is the villain. It became too hot and life decided to move below. Welcome to Compound eleven where the floors rank you of how good of a life you’re going to get. If you’re lucky, you’re on the top floor, but if you’re unlucky like Eve Hamilton, you’re stuck on the bottom where you fight. This is the floor where you have learn to survive and fight for your next meal. Eve is pretty good at surviving and is a top-notch fighter, until she fights a guy from the top floor and gets her ass kicked. But there’s something about him that tells her that he’s different. He instantly pulls her in. She’s always longed for a life above ground so this guy is either going to lift her up or pull her down.

First off, I’m a sucker for kick-ass female protagonists. Eve was a character I was rooting for the entire time. Second off, I found flaws in this book, but it’s almost as if the author meant to do it on purpose. Like for example (and SPOILER ALERT) if the sun was too hot for human life, then how was Eve able to see birds in the Observatory? Or trees for that matter? Shouldn’t the top of the Earth be scorched? I feel like the author left a little mystery for me and I can’t wait to get my hands on the second one to see what happens next!
