I can't stop talking about this book: The Wilderness by Samantha Harvey. It is so lovely and thoughtful, I hope you pick it up. You're in for a treat. Another book I am loving is The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. What are all of you reading these days? I am always taking suggestions!
Rebecca - I recently finished Amber DermontThe Starboard Sea: A Novel. It's a coming of age story that combines mystery, soul-searching and a glimpse into the elite world of New England prep schools. Quite an amazing book - at times, I felt like I was stepping into a painting, particularly the sailing flashbacks. THat's not to say it's an easy read. There are things that happen in it that I'm still struggling with - but isn't that what a good book can do for us?
Based on your book list, I think you would enjoy The Lola Quartet - character-driven thriller with an interesting structure and really good writing. Set mostly in Florida, with some colorful descriptions of the environment, both built and natural, it begins with a 17 year-old girl who is on the run with a new baby and $122,000 that doesn't exactly belong to her. The Lola Quartet is a jazz group comprised of her high school friends who are implicated in some way over the coming decade in her adventures.
I am procrastinating finishing up "Bird Sisters". It is so good, I am savoring it by reading it very slowly. It is the best book I have read in the last l0 years. Two other books you may enjoy that I recently have finished are: "The Art of Fielding" and "What Happened to Sophia Wilder". I am so looking forward to your next book.
